DeAnna Swann-Mayo, a 17 year old 12th grade entrepreneur, is the owner and founder of her own cookie catering business called My Sweet Tooth, LLC. My Sweet Tooth, LLC was created to meet the desires of children and adults that not only have restrictive dietary needs, but also those who are facing diabetes, obesity, and those who simply want a healthier choice. She hopes to one day have her cookies within our school systems and within our grocery stores for our home shoppers.
DeAnna has been featured on the Syndicated Coca Brother Radio Show; Radio One DC's Public Affairs Talk Show with Sheila Stewart ; Black Business Owners Network with Ms. Brenda Eason and Tina Michelle, interviewed by the Katie Able Foundation and spotlighted exclusively on Fox-5 TV with Wisdom Martin. DeAnna is aspiring to host her very own Teen Entrepreneur Reality Show called “Soaring with Eagles”. "My goal is to motivate and inspire youth in our community who are just like me. As I look around I see children who are younger than me struggling with diabetes (whether it is type I or II). I also see children and adults who struggle to maintain their weight but just can’t let go of the sweets." said Ms. Mayo. DeAnna Mayo is also a teen youth advocate and motivational speaker. She is committed to volunteering and giving back to her local community by hosting/co-hosting a series of blood drives for Children's National Medical Center. Ms. Mayo is also co-hosting a shoe drive with Free Gospel's Deliverance Temple's Foreign Mission Unit for Uganda Africa. Ms. Mayo has donated numerous cookies to various non-profit groups and causes. Ms. Mayo served as a 2011 panelist for the DERF Executive Leadership Summit at the U.S. Capitol. Ms. Mayo currently serves a partner of United Health Heroes of Prince George’s County.
She also was a sponsor of The 1st Annual Child Obesity Awareness Health Fair in Bowie, MD. Ms Mayo has served as a speaker at New Life Community Church for Youth Day and was a participant of The American Diabetes Association ‘Step Up’ kickoff. Ms. Mayo has also been awarded a Proclamation by Councilmember Mel Franklin and citation from the Office of the Majority Leader, Congressman Steny Hoyer for her outstanding service and generosity to the community. She is the 2011 recipient of the Sharper Minds/Alpha Phi Alpha Youth Entrepreneur Award along with the '2011 She Matters Entrepreneurial Spirit Award'. She has also received Certificates of Recognition from Senator Barbara Mikulski and Mayor of Baltimore City, Mayor Stephanie Blake.
On May 24, 2011, Ms. Mayo was voted into office as the Vice President of the NAACP Youth Council of Prince George's County. Her goal is to mentor, inspire, and motivate youth within her community to make a difference to become future leaders for tomorrow.
